Coach Charles "Chick" Ciccarelli

 

Born in Brooklyn, Coach Ciccarelli is a graduate of New Utrecht HIgh School and played on the NUHS Football City Championship Team in 1958. Ciccarelli's #8 football jersey is retired at NUHS and he has served as President of NUHS Football Alumni Assocation. Charles Ciccarelli graduated from the University of Charleston, West Virginia with a Bachelor's degree in Health & Physical Education and went on to get his Master's degree at Brooklyn College. He is a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He worked as a teacher for the New York City Board of Education between 1967 - 1997 and is currently a teacher at St. Joseph by the Sea HS, where he has been an education since 2002.

 

Chick's coaching career bega at his alma mater New Utrecht as JV Coach from 1973-1975 and then as Head Coach in 1976. In 1977, he joined the Tottenville HS Pirates as the Varsity Defensive Coordinator and served in that position through 1980, the year the first Pirate football team made it to the PSAL City Championship! Coach Chick became the Varsity Head Coach in 1981 and served as Head Coach through 1983. After a short hiatus, Coach Chick returnedas Defensive Backfield Coach for the Pirates between 2000 - 2003, when the Pirates captured the PSAL City Championship! Coach Chick is, to this day, a steady icon in Pirate Football tradition. Active with the program as an inspirational figure who has the ability to make any football situation seem like "game day." Coach Chick currently sits as a member of the John McNally Scholarship Committee as he continues to serve the Tottenville HS community!

 

Ciccarelli's coaching career also includes stints as Assistant Track Coach at THS, Head Coach Girls Varsity Softball (985-1997), Girls Varsity Volleyball (1985-1992), and Girls Varsity Basketball (1986-1990) at NUHS. Chick was Assistant Coach on the St. Joseph By the Sea Varsity Football team, as well as, Head Coach for the boys and girls Varsity Tennis & Girls Softball. Coach Chick guided the NUHS GIrls Softball, St. Joseph By The Sea Girls Softball and St. Joe's Girls Tennis to CIty Championship.

 

Among Coach Ciccarelli's non-football accomplishments are his titles as North American speed skating champion and two-time Daily News SIlver Skate Champion at age 15 & 16. Ciccarelli was an Olympic qualifier in the Short Track for the 1960 Olympic Games! Chick has been named Daily News "Coach of the Year" and is the recipient of the Good  Sportsmanship Award from the NYC Referee Association. 

 

Charles Ciccarelli and his wife Pia currently reside on Staten Island. Charles is a father of four; Charles, Kelly, Tatiana & Chloe and proud grandfather to Carmen, Giovanni, Nina Bella and Lola.
